Bacon Cheese! Paprika Bear Chips! Liver of Child! No Foolin!

Sweden has some of the best junk food in the world. You can’t swing a snow shovel without hitting a hotdog stand. If I didn’t know better I’d say the three biggest food groups in Sweden were hot dogs, bacon, and condiments. But I do know better. They’ve got herring too.

Here are a few treasures I came across today at grocery stores in Värmland, Sweden and just across the border in Magnor, Norway.

Bamser Paprika Bear Chips

Liver of Child! Norway

When I buy liver paté, I expect a picture of the original animal on the tin. This advertising is all kinds of screwing with my head.

Bacon Ost in a Tube

Love bacon? Love cheese? Love condiments? Ham up your next bacon cheeseburger with some “Bacon Ost”, bacon flavored soft cheese in an easy to use squeezable tube!

For the more traditional pork lover though, there is always the 1 kilo bacon roll:

A kilo of bacon, rolled into log form.

Note how the word BACON has been written and shaped in real bacon and then photographed and slapped on the packaging of more bacon. That is some serious bacon commitment.

Burger King Cheesy Fries and French Toast Snacks, Sweden

Burger King makes Cheesy Fries “flavored potato snack” and French Toast snack sticks? What on earth? Is the distribution limited to Europe? If so, this is just one more testament to progressive European potato chip trends.

  1. One of my favourite things to do when on holiday is to visit the local supermarket; it gives such an eye-opening view of the community and country as a whole.

    Lovely pics.

Mine too! Checking out the local grocery store is so much more telling about a society than a trip to a museum or monument. I came back with an entire suitcase of Scandinavian oddities!

Goodness that’s a lot of strange foods with even more strange advertising. I don’t think I would like a tin full of liver with a smiling child’s face on the cover.

Did you try to bear chips? Did you? (hahaha)

No I didn’t! But I did pick up some other goodies so if you are on the farm this weekend you can partake!
